Convento San Francesco
sanminiato@nuoviorizzonti.org
Founded in 1211 on the site of an oratory dedicated to San Miniato, it is a grandiose complex, the result of numerous extensions over the centuries. Signs of the original church are still visible on the façade.
Inside, there are two elegant cloisters: the “fathers’ cloister” (16th century) and the “novices’ cloister” (18th century). (18th century), while in the refectory there is a large painting by Carlo Bambocci depicting the Supper of St Francis and St Clare. The simple, single-nave church contains numerous works of art such as the finely carved wooden choir, attributed to Giuliano di Baccio D’Agnolo or the painting of the Virgin attributed to Ghirlandaio.
Today the complex is a place of worship and pilgrimage where you can stay overnight or organise dinners and events.
