- Aldobrando degli Azzoni Avogadro
It was in the early years of the last century when the Counts of the Azzoni Avogadro left the Veneto region and moved to La Rotta, a small village halfway between Florence and Pisa. Since then, the hilly terrain, with its fortunate sunny position, has proved particularly suited to viticulture. And today the third-generation owner, Aldobrando, has created one of the best-known wineries in the area by maintaining a very traditional approach and investing heavily in modern technology. The area planted with vines is about 15 hectares with over 7 hectares of new plantings. The ampelographic platform is quite varied and can be summed up on the one hand in the classic Chianti blend of the old vineyards (Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Trebbiano) and on the other in the new varieties with clones selected to aim at quality. Alongside a thriving and now historical market of bulk wine retail, the company has begun a couple of decades ago to measure itself with the production of bottled wine and currently produces a Vermentino (Le Fonticchie), a Pinot Grigio (Villa Sole), a Chianti Riserva (Helianthus) and a Vinsanto (Baciamano).
