Forcoli, Piazza Sant'Antonio, Forcoli
On the last Sunday in May, the Marcia delle Colline (March of the Hills) takes place in Forcoli (between Pontedera and Palaia), now in its 48th edition.
These are non-competitive running races covering distances of 3, 6, 12 and 18 kilometres, with refreshments along the route. The meeting point and start line is at the Centro Nuova Primavera in Forcoli, starting at 7.30 am.
Fòrcoli is a hamlet in the municipality of Palaia. The name derives from Castrum Forcolae, of Roman origin. The village did not escape the struggles between Pisa and Florence, so much so that in 1362 an army of Florentines destroyed the “Mercantale di Forcoli”. In the village, the Villa owned by the Brunner family (hence the name of the main square), who arrived here in 1915 after Guido Brunner defected from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to fight alongside the Italians and died a year later in the war.
