On 16 July Vicopisano remembers the dramatic end of the Pisan Republic, which began with the long siege and capitulation of Vicopisano in 1406 at the end of eight and a half months of siege and bombardment, a ship transported by land and then by Lake Sesto (today the Padule di Bientina) by the Florentines to bombard Vico also from the side of the Arno River.
The public relives those moments through the narration and reading of passages from the chronicles and documents of the time in a walk that has as its backdrop what remains of the ‘Jewel of the Pisans’, as Vicopisano was called in the Middle Ages for its beauty of churches, palaces and towers.
At the end of the itinerary, with the admission ticket, it will be possible to continue with a visit to the Rocca del Brunelleschi. The re-enactment tour will start from Piazza Domenico Cavalca, by the fountain, at 9.10 pm. Participation in the tour, led by Prof. Giovanni Ranieri Fascetti, is free of charge; reservations are not required.
