Every year on 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis, the traditional Castagnata di San Francesco (St. Francis Chestnut Festival) takes place at the Rocca del Brunelleschi in Vicopisano, with free admission.
The event opens with a reflection on the life of the saint by Prof. Giovanni Ranieri Fascetti. This is followed by a tasting of chestnuts for participants.
The chestnut festival, held on the second floor of the Rocca del Brunelleschi (which was converted into a Franciscan convent in the early 17th century), is an opportunity to discover one of the aspects of the figure and life of the saint and stories and characters of the Franciscan Order.
