The opera season traditionally opens the season at the Verdi Theatre in Pisa, one of Italy’s most beautiful traditional theatres and one of the most successful examples of 19th-century theatre architecture. the opera season begins in October and ends in March.

The Premiere of the Opera Season, number 155 of the Theatre of Pisa, will be on Friday 27 October (repeated on 29/10) with Il Barbiere di Siviglia directed by Luigi De Angelis – fresh from the excellent success at the Comunale di Bologna with Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin – and the Orchestra della Toscana.

There are four other titles that make up the Opera Season of the Theatre of Pisa. As a prelude to the opening of the celebrations for the centenary of Giacomo Puccini’s death, on Friday 1 December (repeated on 3/12), the theatre will stage La Rondine, a splendid opera set in France.

Friday 12 and Sunday 14 January L’Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, directed by Pierluigi Pizzi, one of the absolute names in world opera theatre, with the Orchestra Monteverdi Festival

In February (Friday 2 and Sunday 4) La Bohème will be staged in the revival of the historic staging by Cristina Mazzavillani Muti. Nicola Paszkoski conducts the Orchestra Giovanile dLuigi Cherubini.
