AnTeprima Teatro: an open-air stage in Montecalvoli

AnTeprima Teatro transforms the medieval village of Montecalvoli into an open-air stage. On Sunday 27 September, from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm, the historic centre will come alive with shows and performances. Admission is free. This record-breaking edition features 28 theatre companies and a day dedicated to the performing arts and showcasing the village.

Evening Preview: Saturday 26 September

At 7.30 pm, at the Arcipicchia Club in Montecalvoli, you can enjoy an aperitif and light supper. At 9.30pm in Piazza del Comune, the theatre company L’Anello will present “Tutta colpa di un caffè”, a brilliant comedy by Angelo Scammacca, for an evening that will serve as the perfect prelude to Sunday’s big day.

Sunday 27 September: the programme

From 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm, Montecalvoli will be transformed into a veritable open-air stage, with companies from the Intesa Teatro Amatoriale network bringing the village’s squares, streets and corners to life with performances of various kinds, during an afternoon in which theatre will take centre stage in its many forms and languages.
At the Arch and the Belvedere in Via Porta, some painters will exhibit their works, whilst others will create impromptu portraits.

There will also be a strong focus on photography: the ‘La Fototeca’ Cultural Photography Club is organising the exhibition ‘Scatti nel Borgo’, which will feature photographs of the performances from the previous edition of AnTeprimaTeatro. The ‘Scatti in Anteprima’ photography competition, aimed at schoolchildren, is also back. Rounding off the programme are theatre workshops for children in Via Campofranco, alongside other initiatives.

AnTeprimaTeatro is not just about theatre; it is also an opportunity to discover and celebrate Montecalvoli’s historical, artistic and cultural heritage through an itinerary that weaves together performance, art, photography and local traditions.
On Sunday, visitors will be able to take part in guided tours of the village and its evocative underground passages, discovering the history and lesser-known corners of Montecalvoli. Along the route, there will also be stalls, markets and bookshops, offering a range of local crafts and products.
