Summer in Chianni

This summer, Chianni presents a programme of events running from June to August. The medieval village is set in a landscape surrounded by hills and chestnut woods. In this landscape, which has remained unchanged for centuries, olive trees are cultivated, yielding a high-quality harvest.

Free guided tours every Monday morning

Every Monday from late June to late August at 10.00 am, a free guided tour in Italian and English: a walk through the narrow streets, followed by a visit to the church of the Castle. The tour, lasting approximately 2 hours, includes: a stroll through the village’s narrow streets and small squares, detailed explanations of the art, history and local customs, a visit to the picturesque water mills along the stream near the village, and a visit to the church complex of the “Castello” and the Etruscan hypogeum, followed by a final toast in a wine cellar.

Chianni Opera Festival, 27–28 June and 12 September

Now in its 10th year, the Chianni Opera Festival presents Verdi’s *Nabucco* on Saturday 27 June at 9.15 pm in Piazza del Castello, and Pergolesi’s *Stabat Mater* on Sunday 28 June. The event continues on 12 September with Music Day at the Piccolo Teatro.

Taste Chianni, every Thursday evening in July and August

‘Taste Chianni’ is the traditional summer market event showcasing local specialities, held in the evenings every Thursday in July and August in Piazza Bartoli. You can sample the finest local delicacies whilst enjoying the cool evening air, sipping a glass of wine from local producers or having an aperitif in the bars. Also on the theme of tasting, at the end of July, “Chianni loves you”, a set-menu dinner in Piazza della Chiesa, and on 19 August, the Chianni fair with games and dinner in Piazza della Chiesa

Rivalto in Festa on 10 August and Chianni Festival on 19 August

On 10 August, the most enchanting night of the summer returns to Rivalto, famous in autumn for its chestnuts. The menu features traditional peasant dishes and more, with an eye on the stars for the night of San Lorenzo. Chianni celebrates its village fair on 19 August, with children’s entertainment, bingo and dinner in the square
