The Giardino Scotto is a historic green area in the heart of the city, located in Lungarno Fibonacci. It originated as the Cittadella Nuova and was built in 1468 by the Florentines during their first domination over Pisa, then destroyed following the revolt, it was restored to a design by the architect Giuliano da Sangallo.
The garden is located in the centre of the fortress bastions and was created in the 19th century by Giovanni Caluri for the Scotto family, who had purchased the Cittadella at the end of the 18th century, when it was put up for sale by Grand Duke Leopold I of Tuscany.
A public garden since 1939, it had been part of the Scotto-Corsini family palace. Today it is a green area frequented by citizens and tourists that in summer comes alive with open-air cinema, concerts and theatre performances.
Open in summer every Saturday and Sunday, 10-12 in the morning and 16-19 in the afternoon.
