Nativity Scene Crib of Nicosia | Calci

The tradition of nativity scenes crib is renewed with the one set up in Nicosia, a hamlet near Calci, inside the restored part of an abandoned convent. It is called “The Nativity Crib that grows” because every year it adds new characters and new settings.

Set up in 1999 and built entirely by hand, it began with just three figures representing the deepest meaning of the Nativity: Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus. Over the years, the Three Wise Men, the Angel, and characters that every year surprise visitors with their connection to the Gospel or to everyday life have been added.

The nativity scene is part of Terre di Presepi, the network that unites nativity scenes in Tuscany and throughout Italy.
