Exhibitions at the Museum of Ceramics | Calcinaia

18/09/2026 - 03/10/2026 ore: 18:00 - 20:00

centro storico Calcinaia, Via Vittorio Emanuele, Calcinaia

On Friday 18 September at 6.00 pm, the Museum reopens with the free exhibition ‘Il mondo un po’ alla volta’ by Sara Vaglini, a young artist who grew up in a stimulating environment, with a mother who was a painter and a father who was a goldsmith. The exhibition runs until 3 October.

The Coccapani Ceramics Museum introduces visitors to the art of ceramics by showcasing production and decoration techniques, as well as the tools and equipment used. Through educational workshops for school-age children, it transforms the visit into a journey of discovery and personal growth, helping visitors to understand the relationships between objects, the local area and its people.

Take, for example, the ‘navicellai’ who, in the 16th century, steered their boats (navicello) to transport various types of goods. The navicello, with its flat shape, was small in size and had rounded sides, capable of carrying loads of up to 25 tonnes. Later, the navicello boatmen began to expand their activities, turning their hand to fishing as well, thanks to the use of the ‘giacchio’ – a conical net – which enabled them to catch considerable quantities of fish that they then sold on.
