Festival of the “nozza” waffle | Calcinaia

The sagra della nozza has been held for 48 years on the third weekend of May in Calcinaia.

The festival was created to accompany the feast of the patron Santa Ubaldesca. This year is an extra reason to celebrate because it is the 100th anniversary of the transfer of the Saint’s body from Pisa to Calcinaia. (see programme by clicking on the poster).

The event is certainly an occasion not to be missed. You can taste the typical cake that, year after year, blossoms from the hands of women and men who work all day long in the “workshop” of the Deputation of Saint Ubaldesca . During the days of the festival, stalls are set up along Via Indipendenza.

On 18 May at 5pm, the 3rd Palio remiero takes place, a shorter regatta that always involves the “Montecchio”, “Oltrarno”, and “La Nave” districts and anticipates the historical palio on 25 May .
