Three Carnival parades: 28 Jan, 4th and 11th February in the main streets and squares of Santa Croce sull’Arno
The traditional Carnival of Santa Croce sull’Arno dates back to 1928 when some locals decided to dress up to bring some cheer to the grey winter days. The Carnival of Santa Croce is not the usual parade of masks and carnival floats, but a real “performance” where hundreds of handmade masks, often entirely made in leather, the typical material produced in the town, parade around the streets with colourful choreographies. An authentic popular celebration were imagination and creativity create unique and original masks. For three weeks, every Sunday, a programme of concerts in the piazza, travelling shows, food tastings, theatre, talks, and an artisans’ market.
