Bird Fair | Montopoli in Val d’Arno

The festival takes place on the last Sunday of September in the historic center of Montopoli with bird singing performances. At the same time, for some years, the dog show has also been held.

The fair celebrates 609 years. In 1360 it was included in the municipal statute which, in 1442, allowed to move the Falcon Market from the day of San Simone to that of San Michele. However, it is certain that from 1442, every 29th of September, this fair took place in the center, in the street called Via del Falcone (still today, it is possible to see the nails used to attach the cages to the walls of the houses).

The data of the fair can be summarized in these figures (latest edition 2019): 32,000 m2 of exhibition, over 60 points of sale, 500 singers in the competition. Free admission. All kinds of hunting are present: not only birds, decoys, decoys, luggage, but clothes, footwear, water bottles, huts, hunting games, moulds, books and a real hunting show.
