The market fair takes palce in Forcoli, between Pontedera and Palaia, on the second week end of October, from Friday to Sunday. Tastings, Slow Food workshops, plus Saturday dinner, Sunday lunch and dinner in the indoor restaurant with truffle and porcini mushroom specialities and other local dishes. The market fair also includes live music performances, entertainment for children, artisanal and gastronomic stands .
The truffle from the hills around the medieval village of Palaia is a source of pride and prestige for its territory. The climate, soil, vegetation of this part of Tuscany contribute to the presence of the white truffle, to be harvested from September to December. Thanks to a careful and recent study by the University of Pisa, the Tuber Magnatum Pico (the White Truffle) and the Marzuolo Truffle (another type of truffle available from January to April) were recently given official scientific identifications.
