The private estate of Santallago at the top of the road from Calci to Monte Serra extends over a plateau of about 4 hectares, at an altitude of 800 meters, on Mount Pisano. Today, it is the location of a restaurant and accommodation facility with ample parking.
Surrounded by chestnut woods, fir trees, beech trees, and cherry trees, it includes distinctive hills and peaks, such as Monte Serra (917 meters above sea level), Monte Cascetto (900 meters), Spuntone di Santallago (870 meters), Monte Faeta (829 meters), and Verrucchino (766 meters).
Until the end of the 19th century, the property consisted of two farms that were acquired in the 20th century by Oscar Tobler, a wealthy merchant from Livorno, who turned it into “mountain agricultural activity and at the same time a suitable place for the lordly holiday residence.” Today, the estate belongs to the Tadini โ Buoninsegni โ Tobler family.
The plateau on Monte Serra is the ideal destination for families, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, offering walks or trekking activities along shaded paths, picnics, mountain biking, or horseback riding excursions.
