The Protected Natural Area “Serra di Sotto” (A.N.P.I.L) covers an area of approximately 400 hectares and is located on the southeastern slope of Monte Serra, in the Municipality of Buti. Established following the decommissioning of the “Monte Serra” wildlife oasis, it is partly under private ownership.
The visit starts from Prato Ceragiola and reaches Prato a Giovo and Prato all’Acqua. From here, a network of trails connects to other locations such as Sasso della Dolorosa, Quadonica, Valle del Sassetto, la Coscia, i Pianali, Colle della Volpaia, il Passatoio, and la Brezza. From the latter, you can continue along the forest road until reaching the provincial road of Monte Serra, eventually returning to the starting point.
The presence of a vast wooded area has facilitated the development of various mushroom species. Many maritime pine trees, chestnut groves, and conifers can also be found. Among the fauna are lizards, whip snakes, salamanders, hedgehogs, and the dwarf bat.
