Gateway to Geothermal Energy | Monteverdi Marittimo

Monteverdi Marittimo is the “Gateway to Geothermal Energy,” welcoming visitors and those traveling along Provincial Road 329 to the geothermal areas on the northern slope, which include the municipalities of Pomarance, Monterotondo Marittimo, and Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, which form the other ‘borders’ of the traditional geothermal area straddling the provinces of Pisa, Grosseto, and Siena.

On Provincial Road 329 at km 19+800, the “Porta per la Geotermia” just before the village, illustrates geothermal energy in Tuscany with multilingual panels explaining the history and operation of this renewable resource, combined with other displays on the area’s tourist attractions.

A beautiful display of the geothermal production cycle, from the steam pipes that also serve as the park’s entrance to the wellheads, the cooling tower, and other equipment that allows steam from the earth’s core to reach the turbine for electricity generation, and is then used for heating purposes to provide district heating for homes and businesses, as well as for other innovative applications.
