Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Ponsacco 1497

Ponsacco will host for the 13th year the Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Ponte di Sacco in 1497, between the Pisans and the Florentines troops, which resulted in the severe destruction of the castle at the hands of the Florentine soldiers led by Guidubaldo da Montefeltro.

At 3.30 p.m., the historical procession starts from Largo della Pace, enters Via Vanni, passes through Piazza d’Appiano and Piazza della Repubblica, crosses Porta Pisana and arrives in Piazza San Giovanni, where the blessing of the participants in the challenge takes place.

In Piazza Valli, the crossbow shooting by the Crossbowmen of Porta San Marco then takes place, followed by the challenge by the Archers of Ponte di Sacco. Halfway through the two disfides, the Historical Group of the Contrada Porta al Palagio of the Palio del Cerro di Cerreto Guidi performs.
