The traditional Volterra Jazz summer festival, now in its 33rd year, takes place from 3 to 6 August

Over the years, it has brought great musicians and fantastic concerts to Volterra, promoting an appreciation of jazz music in our region. Throughout this time, through its educational activities, it has introduced students of all ages to this wonderful music, which undoubtedly represents the highest aesthetic and creative achievement of the 20th century. Jazz travelled from the African continent on slave ships until it reached the New World, America: there it merged with white culture and told us of the pain, faith and hope of peoples in search of freedom and equality.
