The Nativity Crib of Tre Colli | Calci

Tre Colli, a hamlet near Calci, sets up in the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, the Nativity scene each year has as its theme the ‘details’ that over the centuries have characterised the Calci area and given it the name ‘Valgraziosa’.

Tre Colli was a leading player in the glory of the Republic of Pisa with more than one hundred mills, now unfortunately no longer preserved, arranged along the banks of streams, offering the territory high economic importance until the end of the 19th century.

With its terraced olive groves and numerous dry-stone walls, still in a fair state of preservation, the Calces area is identified with the art of quarrying the very hard Verruca stone, used for the construction of millstones, and in having been able to make the excellent flours exported throughout the Mediterranean.

The Tre Colli Crib is part of the Terre di Presepi route.
