Village Fair of Fauglia

Every summer, on the first Friday of August, the traditional village festival returns, lasting late into the night. The road is closed to traffic, and the center of Fauglia fills with tables and market stalls. Dinner is served in the town square, followed by live entertainment. The fair precedes the feast of the patron saint, San Lorenzo on August 10th, which features a procession, tastings of local products, and a buffet dinner in the parish garden, accompanied by music.

Fauglia is characterized by a single main road lined with houses and small squares. Points of interest include the old church bell tower, the Town Hall, the Municipal Theater, and the Church of San Lorenzo, while the Market Square (Piazza del Mercato) is notable for its old grain warehouses.

Elegant villas in the surrounding area are a distinctive feature of the village, which was once a favored destination for intellectuals and writers. Prominent among these is Villa Trovarsi, the former home of actress Marta Abba, who had a close connection to the playwright and writer Luigi Pirandello. Also of note is the small Giorgio Kienerk Museum, housed in the 19th-century building that formerly served as Fauglia’s magistrate’s court and prison cells. It was established to preserve the works of the Post-Macchiaioli painter Kienerk—including oil paintings, bas-reliefs, sculptures, engravings, and lithographs—which were donated to the community of Fauglia by his daughter, Vittoria.
