Shopping on the coast: a guide to the summer markets in Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia

Summer on the Pisa coast isn’t just about the sea, beach resorts and relaxing on the shore; it’s also an unmissable opportunity for lovers of outdoor shopping. Residents and tourists alike can enjoy strolling amongst stalls offering fine food and wine, local crafts, and quality clothing and footwear, just a stone’s throw from the beaches of Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia.

Marina di Pisa summer market: a Sunday tradition by the sea

In Marina di Pisa, Sunday mornings come alive with the traditional seasonal market, a regular fixture that accompanies visitors and locals throughout the summer, running roughly from the last Sunday in May until the end of September. The market stalls, offering all manner of goods to meet both everyday needs and the search for souvenirs and curiosities, are set up in the picturesque setting of Via Moriconi. The market runs in the early part of the day, roughly from 8.00 am to 1.30 pm, offering the perfect opportunity to combine a spot of morning shopping with lunch at one of the seaside seafood restaurants or an afternoon in the sun.

Piazza dei Fiori in Tirrenia: the Tuesday morning market

A few km further south along the Pisan coast, the summer market scene centres on the renowned resort of Tirrenia. Here, the weekly summer market takes place every Tuesday morning, always between 8.00 am and 1.30 pm. The beating heart of the event is the central Piazza dei Fiori, which for the occasion is transformed into a colourful open-air village. This market also runs throughout the season, starting on the Tuesday following the last Sunday in May and continuing until the last Tuesday in September, becoming a must-visit for anyone staying at campsites or hotels in the area.

Shopping under the stars: evening events and special markets

The real highlight of summer on the Pisa coast is the range of special events and night markets, designed to bring the warm summer evenings to life. During July and August, there are various special shopping events under the stars. These night-time events, which often take place at weekends or to coincide with the mid-August festivities and the events on the coast’s summer cultural calendar, allow you to stroll amongst the stalls in the late afternoon and evening. The atmosphere of the sea breeze, combined with a carefully curated selection of goods and products from the Tuscan region, transforms these evenings into genuine moments of socialising and leisure for the whole family.
