Pisan New Year’s Eve in Vicopisano and Calci

Vicopisano celebrates the Pisan New Year at 11.45 am in the Romanesque parish church of Santa Maria, awaiting the moment when a ray of sunlight illuminates the Virgin Mary’s womb in the fresco of the Annunciation, marking the start of 2027.
This will be followed by a toast at Caffè Brunelleschi, accompanied by waffles bearing the coat of arms of Vicopisano on one side and the Rocca and Soccorso complex on the other, followed by a New Year’s lunch in Piazza Cavalca. At 3.00 pm, a philosophical walk begins, open to all and free of charge, dedicated to Pope Francis’s encyclical letter “Fratelli Tutti” on fraternity and social friendship, inspired by St Francis of Assisi, the eighth centenary of whose death falls in 2026.
Pisan New Year also marks the reopening of guided tours of the Rocca Complex, which will be open from next weekend, every weekend, at the following times:
Saturday 28 March, from 3.30 pm to 7.00 pm
Sunday 29 March, from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 19.00.
