Pisa and the Mediterranean Sea: a journey back in time

05/06/2026 - 06/06/2026 ore: 21:00 - 23:00

Parco delle Concette, Via di Concette, Pisa

‘Pisa and the Mediterranean’ is an artistic and cultural project that aims to explore Pisa’s rich history through a symbolic journey through time, blending memory, art and performance.
The event takes place on 5 and 6 June at 9.15 pm at Parco delle Concette.

It is an emotional journey spanning eras from the 12th century (the Middle Ages) to the 18th century (the Romantic era), along the 120-metre stretch of the Parco delle Concette walls, which were once the site of battles around the year 1400. A variety of characters and atmospheres will take to the stage: theatre, dance, circus arts and music will intertwine in an immersive and contemporary production.

Accompanying the dancers/actors’ journey will be video projections on the park’s walls throughout the narrative route, featuring evocative images that will reconstruct settings, landscapes, works of art and
visions of the Mediterranean, transforming the show into a sensory and cultural experience.

The historical narrative begins with the splendour of the Maritime Republics, during which Pisa was one of the most powerful and influential cities in the Mediterranean: a hub for cultural encounters and exchanges capable of connecting East and West. Introducing not only goods, but also knowledge, science, art and new worldviews. Pisa thus became a crossroads of civilisations and one of the cultural capitals of medieval Europe.
