Monumental Nativity Scene in Ponte a Egola

The Nativity Scene in Ponte a Egola is a monumental representation with life-size figures that occupy Piazza Guido Rossa from 8 December to 11 January 2026. It is characterised by its considerable size, by being made of leather and by being displayed in a bottale.

The drum was displayed in Piazza San Pietro during the International Exhibition 100 Presepi in Vaticano (100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican) at Bernini’s left colonnade. For the occasion, the hut became a large wooden drum (3.5 metres in diameter and 3.5 metres long), inside which are the nativity characters made of genuine vegetable-tanned leather. The figures were created using laser cutting technology and then worked and dyed by hand.

The nativity scenes synthesise the inspiration and imagination of the artists who create them using a variety of materials: Japanese paper, silk, resin, polystyrene, wool, coconut and banana fibre, and glass.
