The exhibition at the Museum dell’Opera del Duomo offers an opportunity to revisit the critical fortune of Giovanni Pisano between the 19th and 20th centuries, up to his “rediscovery” by famous sculptors such as Henry Moore and Marino Marini. The exhibition, open to the public from 13 December 2025 to 8 March 2026, reconstructs the nineteenth-century birth of the artist’s myth and traces the complex history of the famous pulpit, whose fragments underwent centuries of reuse and dispersion before being reassembled in 1926.
This is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity, made possible by the return to Pisa, after almost two hundred years, of three elements of the altarpiece now preserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Casts, paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs and drawings combine to convey the views of artists, scholars and visitors on his work. The exhibition is on display at the
