Europe Festival | Santa Maria a Monte

In addition to presenting the community’s traditions with the traditional Procession of the Breadbaskets, the event and the two-day Festival d’Europa aims to enhance the village’s historical and cultural heritage. Guided tours of the historic centre’s museums will be held: the La Rocca Archaeological Area, the adjoining Beata Diana Giuntini Civic Museum and the Carducci House Museum, which houses the permanent exhibition “Tenero Gigante” by painter Antonio Possenti.

Fascinating guided tours will also allow visitors to get to know the “underground city”: a veritable network of tunnels, underground passages and cisterns run under the houses, passing through what were once the three circles of the ancient castle walls. In spite of the centuries and the changes it has undergone, the “hidden city”, once conceived for military purposes, is one of the municipality’s must-see attractions.
