Dinners in the village of Marti

In June, two dinners will be held in the village of Marti, near Montopoli in Valdarno.

The first on Saturday 6 June, entitled “La Cena rionale a Colle” (The Neighbourhood Dinner in Colle), followed by “Cena in bianco sul borgo” (Dinner in White in the Village) on 27 June. On Saturday 28 July, the second entitled “Gli artisti martigiani” (The Artists of Marti).

The medieval urban layout of the current historic centre of Marti has remained in excellent condition, with brick structures such as the Pieve Santa Maria Novella and other buildings used as kilns, which represented the prevailing activity at the time. The church is the pride of Marti: built in 1332, it has a two-level façade featuring ceramic basins. The single-nave interior preserves a splendid cycle of paintings by Bamberini (1719-22).

During an archaeological excavation campaign in the Bastione area, a section of the 14th-century fortification walls, a brick kiln (perhaps used to build the church) and even some Etruscan hypogea were discovered.
