Bee Days | Volterra

Wednesday, 20 May is World Bee Day. Now in its fifth year, the event aims to draw attention to the world of beekeeping in all its nuances and how humans use its benefits not only for food but also for therapeutic purposes.

In October 2017, it was decided to celebrate World Bee Day on 20 May, an important date for beekeeping. This date coincides with the birth of Anton Janša (1734-1773), a Slovenian farmer and beekeeper who is remembered as one of the pioneers of rational beekeeping. This date is not only intended to commemorate this important pioneer of modern beekeeping techniques, but also to highlight the role played by Slovenia in promoting this important day and beekeeping and bees in general.
