San Miniato | Roffia Rowing Basin

The Roffia Reservoir is located along the road from San Miniato Basso to Isola, which runs parallel to the course of the Arno. A lake was formed near the hamlet of the same name following several floods of the river. A recovery plan begun in the 1980s transformed the area into a river park equipped for canoeing and international rowing competitions.

In recent years, it has become an important national rowing basin. In fact, the banks host the headquarters of canoeing, rowing and water polo teams. The route along the lake, which can be travelled both on foot and by mountain bike, alternates between stretches of woodland and small beach-like clearings. The shore closest to the Arno is the wildest part of the lake, where the flora and fauna of the environment can be observed, while the part near the main road is the most man-made, where canoeing and rowing can be practised.
