Founded in 1530, the church was rebuilt in the early 18th century by Giuseppe and Francesco Melani.
The plastered façade features a marble portal, surmounted by a large tympanum with a Corinthian capital and a wide marble window. In 1710, the new square-plan bell tower was built of brick, with a balcony in pietra serena.
The interior features a single apsidal nave, which preserves an artistic heritage of significant 18th-century value: at the entrance, two marble cherubs support shell-shaped holy water fonts, and four half-columns with stucco ornamentation adorn the presbytery.
Above the high altar hangs a painting by Ranieri del Pace, depicting The Rest on the Flight into Egypt (1729). The vault of the apse is decorated with the coats of arms of the city, the Compagnia del Crocione, and the Misericordia (1955). On the left wall is a fresco from the school of Giovanni Battista Tempesti, dating from the early decades of the 19th century.
On the right wall is the Chapel of the Most Precious Blood, whose vault features the fresco The Holy Face and Flight of Angels (1895) by Ranieri Cardelli. Continuing toward the entrance, we encounter the Perelli altar dedicated to the Divine Shepherdess and the wooden stucco statue depicting Christ falling beneath the cross, created by Giuseppe Giacobbi in 1705 for the Certosa di Calci and later moved to the church.
The church belongs to the Misericordia of Pisa, which sets up a beautiful artistic nativity scene with lighting effects every year (open daily from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM).
