It is an ancient castle transformed over two centuries ago into a farm village where traces of the past are still visible. In fact, the village shows the typical layout of medieval castles.
In the 18th century, the castle was transformed into a villa farm, which reached full prosperity in the mid-19th century until the early decades of the 20th century, thanks to the Marquises Alamanni Uguccioni.
The present-day parish church of St. John the Baptist, which once stood next to the defensive walls of the castle, has a basilica form with Romanesque elements. It suffered numerous damages over the centuries that resulted in the partial loss of the right aisle, as well as the original bell tower, modified in the 16th century. Restoration work brought to light the apse in its entirety and made it possible to recover an inner chapel.
