Migliarino Pisano | Chiesa of San Ranieri

History and Architecture of the Church of San Ranieri

The current church, dedicated to the patron saint of Pisa, San Ranieri, represents the evolution of the original 18th-century chapel. A significant expansion in 1879 redefined the structure while preserving the historical essence of the original building. During this work, the bell tower was relocated to make room for the Salviati family tomb.

Storia e architettura della Chiesa di San Ranieri

Historical context The church is part of the broader context of the territorial reorganization carried out by the Medici family between the 15th and 16th centuries, when the area between Lake Massaciuccoli and the Serchio River was divided into independent estates and farms. The Salviati dukes’ estate, where the church stands, is a significant testament to this historical period.
