Casciana Terme Lari | Perignano

Probably of Roman origin, Perignano is mentioned for the first time in a document prior to the year 1000. As early as the mid 13th century, it had two churches registered in the Diocese of Lucca. What remains today is the one dedicated to Santa Lucia, the patron saint, restored at the end of the 19th century and decorated with paintings that probably came from the original church.

The devotion to Saint Lucia is manifested every year in September with the ‘palio delle contrade’, during which the six districts of the town (Casaccia, Castello, Quattro Strade, Spinelli, Tre Vie and Viale) compete in the game of the scales.

Perignano was in the recent past known as a furniture town thanks to the vast and qualified offer of exhibitions in the furniture sector, which unfortunately has experienced a deep crisis with the closure of many activities and shops.

On the road to Lari is the vast complex of Villa Samminiatelli, a stately country residence with a large park and a family chapel.
