Casciana Terme| Ceppato

The ancient village of Ceppato lies perched between Parlascio and Sant’Ermo. Its built-up area is still characterised by the presence of tower-houses from the 13th and 14th centuries, in a dominant position to spot enemy combatants. In the northernmost part of the village is a small square overlooked by buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Chiesetta Franciosi, a small noble chapel.

The church of San Rocco is worth a visit, with its gabled façade, restored and embellished with a fresco of the saint on the portal lunette. The church is located near the cemetery and its origins date back to the 12th century. Before being dedicated to San Rocco, in 1450, it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

On the highest point of the hill is a tower with a quadrangular base, probably a former watchtower, now used as a reservoir for the municipal waterworks.
