Fauglia, Valtriano | Villa Gotti Porcinari

The farmhouse in Valtriano near Fauglia has a long history, which began on the ruins of an ancient monastery and church.

In 1472, the monks of San Paolo left the estate, which passed to various cardinals, including Giovanni dei Medici, son of Lorenzo the Magnificent. It was subsequently entrusted to Ugolino Grifoni, who became a Knight of the Order of St Stephen. The Grifoni family retained control until 1774, when Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo made them the official owners.

In 1850, the estate was sold to the Traxler family, who in 1933 sold part of the property to Dr Alfonso Morelli, whilst the villa remained with the Traxlers and then passed to the noblewoman Adele Poschi Mauron. In 1948, the villa was purchased by the Counts Gotti Porcinari. Gina Morelli, Dr Morelli’s niece, married Count Alberto Gotti Porcinari, thus reuniting the villa and the farm.

The estate was involved in agriculture and livestock farming, growing wheat, fodder, wine and fruit, as well as operating a tobacco shop. With the end of sharecropping, wage labourers were employed, and today the estate mainly produces durum wheat and sunflowers.

The property is managed by Countess Gina Morelli dei Gotti Porcinari and her daughter Margherita.
