Piazza Fantozzi, Marti
For nine years now, Marti, a hamlet of Montopoli in Val d’Arno, has been hosting an exhibition of artistic nativity scenes. In Piazza Terreni, Presepi sulle Vie (Nativity Scenes on the Streets) will be inaugurated, made almost exclusively from recycled materials. Around a hundred creative or traditional representations will be on display along the streets of the village until 6 January. In the evening, stars and comets will illuminate the nativity scenes. The initiative is part of Terre di presepi (Land of Nativity Scenes) initiative.
Pieve di S. Maria Novella – Marti
Marti, between art and archaeology
After the destruction and looting by the Florentines, the Pieve di S. Maria Novella, built in 1332, was not used for decades until 1470, when it was restored and then reconsecrated by the bishop of Lucca. Nearby is the archaeological area of the Bastione.
