Leather and hide from Ponte a Egola and Santa Croce sull’Arno, crystal from Colle Val d’Elsa, terracotta from Montelupo Fiorentino, alabaster and salt from Volterra, marble from Carrara, Signa with its straw and typical hats, Casentino cloth, Pescia paper: for the first time, quality Tuscan craftsmanship will be the star of “Nativity Tuscany” from Saturday 15 November in San Miniato at the Church of San Francesco until 30 November.
The characters of the nativity scene, the setting and the effects will take shape before the eyes of visitors and will then be displayed together with the materials that identify their origin. The artisans will demonstrate their techniques and processes, for example, the potters will shape the clay on the potter’s wheel, as will those who work with sarello, or the seamstresses who will sew and work with leather. Painters will create their works live. Each piece will have a description of the materials and techniques used to create it, the artisan who made it and its place of origin.
