Living Nativity Scene in Casciana Terme

At Casciana Terme, on Sunday 14 December, the traditional Living Crib reaches its 20th edition.

A parade among torches and candles
The route of the Nativity scene, illuminated by candles and torches to make it all the more evocative and fascinating, starts at 3.30 p.m. from Piazza San Martino with more than one hundred participants and ends at the Corte Aquisana, the site of King Herod’s Court. Here, the daily life of a village of bygone days has been reproduced with the dwellings of Mary and Joseph.

Corte and Torre Aquisana
Torre Aquisana and Corte Aquisana, in the medieval district of Petraia, form the medieval historical core of Casciana. The Corte is first recorded in a map of 1024 for the agricultural exploitation of the surrounding territory. The tower also had a defensive value, as a sighting structure. All around, the buildings still reveal the original stone and brick structures of the medieval village.
