Museo Nazionale San Matteo, Piazza San Matteo in Soarta, Pisa
The Sea That Unites: Mediterranean Techniques and Cults between Pisa and Catalonia. As part of the collaboration between the Musei nazionali di Pisa and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya on the occasion of the exhibition Sant Pere de Rodes i el Mestre de Cabestany: la creació d’un mite, the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo displays on temporary loan the Frontlet of the Archangels (1225–1250), a masterpiece of Catalan art. With its elegant and dynamic figures, the work reflects the profound renewal of Romanesque painting that spread across Europe around the year 1200.
The illustrious guest is placed in relation to other works in the permanent collection, which testify to the circulation of techniques and cults in the Mediterranean.
