Vecchiano | Church of San Frediano

Documented as early as 762 among the churches dependent on the diocese of Lucca, it is one of the oldest testimonies of the area, in Pisan Romanesque style but completely rebuilt and enlarged around 1835, according to neoclassical taste. It is thought to have been linked to a hospital for the needy until the settlement of the Camaldolese Monks in 1077.

The single-nave interior holds several paintings by Ventura Salimbeni, a painting of the Adoration of the Magi by Augusto Lomi, a painted cross from the mid-13th century and a fresco of the Holy Family attributed to Giuseppe Melani from Pisa.
