Olive oil festival in Calci

The Compagnia di Calci, in collaboration with local businesses and the Olive oil Route of the Pisan Mount is organising the Festa dell’Olio (Oil Festival) in Calci with a programme of events from 8 to 29 November. The programme includes walks, workshops, tastings, meetings and cultural events to oil mills, olive groves and other locations.

Saturday 8 November at 3.30 pm, “Alla scoperta del frantoio” (Discovering the oil mill), a workshop designed for children and families to learn about how extra virgin olive oil is made. The activity takes place between the Frantoio del Monte Pisano, Tata Nunù and the Fucina di Leonardo (Ph. 333 984 6160).

On Sunday 9 November, a 12 km walk called “Lo Spuntone di Santallago” (WhatsApp 349 464 9333) and two events dedicated to sensory experiences. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Elter Francesco farm hosts “Viaggio multisensoriale: dall’ulivo all’olio” (Multisensory journey: from olive tree to oil), including a walk, meditation and guided tasting (registration on 333 411 6273).

14 November, at 5 pm, the Elter Francesco Farm hosts a basic oil tasting course (Ph. 329 676 4814).

Sunday 16 November, a walk among the olive trees with a guided tour of the Frantoio del Monte Pisano oil mill, in collaboration with Podere del Pari and the Associazione Camminatori Liberi (meeting point at 9.30 am in front of the Town Hall; info: info@poderedelpari.it).

The event closes on Saturday 29 November with a walk through the historic centre and a visit to the former Ruschi oil mill, followed by a tasting of local oil (meeting point at 2.30pm in front of the Town Hall, reservations on 338 676 1609).
