Cappella Santo Stefano in Sardina, Via del Tiglio, 176, Calcinaia
On Saturdays and Sundays of the last weekend of the month, from 3.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Chapel of Santo Stefano in Sardina (Via del Tiglio, 195) reopens to visitors.
The small Baroque church was built at the behest of the Lateran Canons of Nicosia, near Calci, who owned the land of Sardina from the 15th century until 1780. It may have been designed by the Pisan engineer Niccolaio Stassi around 1767, at the same time as he was working on the great work on the Certosa di Calci. Thanks to patient restoration work, the altarpiece painted by Gaetano Maria Franchi in 1767 depicting the Blessed Arcangelo Canetoli has also been brought back to life.
