Palio of the duck | San Miniato

It runs in the village of Balconevisi in the second weekend of October.
The village is divided into four districts: Buecchio, Borgo, Fornacino and Fondo di Scesa. Each pair of ducks represents the name of the district. It runs for 150 meters a kind of relay. Only one rule: ducks can’t be touched.

The palio is preceeded on Saturday 10th at 7.30 pm with a dinner featuring white truffles, mushrooms and other local specialities.

On Sunday 11 October, at 8.30 am, the day begins with Holy Mass in the Church of San Pietro. At 12.00, there will be lunch featuring white truffles, mushrooms and local specialities, whilst from 3.00 pm the stalls and craft market will open in the village, the Cortile della Fattoria and the charity fair. The Antica Osteria refreshment stand will also be open.
In the afternoon, there will also be ‘L’angolo dei Balocchi’, featuring wooden games for adults and children, exhibitions and demonstrations by master craftsmen, and workshops. This will be followed by the palio.
