Casciana Terme and Lari<\/strong> (now united in a single municipality) boast a territory that can offer excellence and attractions, making it a unique place to experience the authenticity of Tuscany. To enjoy the wonderful landscapes of this area, visitors can travel along beautiful trails<\/a> winding their way through olive groves and vineyards.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thermal baths<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the welcoming town of Casciana Terme surrounded by hills, the Terme di Casciana<\/strong><\/a> can restore your well-being and make you experience the charm of a millenary tradition. The building was designed in the 19th century by architect Poggi, the same of Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence.<\/p>\n

The Castle of the Vicars<\/strong><\/h2>\n

From Casciana Terme it is easy to get to Lari<\/strong>, which has a wall with three access gates and is characterized by the massive Castello dei Vicari.<\/strong><\/a> An important military garrison of the Pisan Republic until its fall under Florence, the castle became not only the residence of the Vicari family (the Florentine governors) until 1848, but also a prison, a place of torture, and a court of law.<\/p>\n

Today it is an interesting interactive dynamic museum where you can discover the history of the area through holographic projections of its main characters on life-sized screens as they tell disturbing stories such as that of the ghost of Rosso della Paola. Ceremonies and weddings also take place at the castle. Inside you can also find the Filippo Baldinucci Civic Museum, which contains finds from the Etruscan to the Renaissance period.<\/p>\n

In the surrounding countryside visitors can find trails that allow them to truly get lost in nature while discovering villages like Casciana Alta with its Romanesque church of San Nicola in Sessana, Sant\u2019Ermo, and Usigliano. The latter has a small Museum of agricultural activities, with a cellar and cup maker, as well as a section dedicated to Italian \u201cpeasant nativity scenes\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cherries<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lari is famous for its cherries,<\/strong> to which it has dedicated the oldest food festival of Tuscany for over 60 years now (late May-early June). Their cultivation benefits from a particularly suitable climate and soil. Moreover, in order to enhance the 19 varieties present, the Lari Cherry Protection Committee was set up, which is working to obtain the IGP mark.<\/p>\n

Wine<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Casciana Terme and Lari are included in the Colline Pisane Wine Trail<\/a>. Indeed, this area produces quality IGT and DOCG wines as well as the new DOC Terre di Pisa<\/a> which reflect its ties with the territory.
