It is an area crossed by the Arno River-rich in history, excellent food, beautiful landscapes-bounded to the north of the river by the <em><strong>Cerbaie hills<\/strong><\/em> and to the south by the <em><strong>Hills of San Miniato<\/strong><\/em>, the largest truffle area in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">San Miniato<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-529990\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Points of interest<\/h2><div id=\"ac-529990\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Cathedral Square <br>Seminary Square Tower of Frederick II <br>Municipal Palace<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vespa itinerary starts from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/territory\/san-miniato\/\"> <strong>San Miniato<\/strong>,<\/a> the <strong>city of the white truffle<\/strong>, which is located along the ancient <strong>Via Francigena<\/strong>. This is why the Germanic emperors chose it as a stronghold. Its strategic proximity to Florence, Pisa, Siena and Lucca made it a strategic point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who enjoy slow tourism can traverse its territory by following the ancient route of armies and trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A visit to its lovely historic center is characterized by the rich cultural offerings that combine civil and religious buildings. The <strong>Sanctuary of the Madonna<\/strong>, a place of devotion and home to one of the most important Tuscan nativity scenes, is also located here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Castelfranco di Sotto<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-529992\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Points of interest<\/h2><div id=\"ac-529992\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Paul (historic center)<br>Nature Reserve of Montefalcone<br>Cerbaie Hills<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Crossing the San Romano Bridge<\/strong>, we are back on the right bank of the river. We suggest a stop in <strong>Castelfranco di Sotto<\/strong>, a former medieval castle and re-founding town, now an industrial center linked to the<strong> Distretto del Cuoio.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;\u00ab<strong>renaioli\u00bb <\/strong>who dredged water from the river to collect sand and trade it, used to carry out their activities here. The tradition lives on in the picturesque &#8220;<strong>palio dei barchini<\/strong>&#8221; held every year in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just outside Castelfranco you enter the <strong>Montefalcone Nature Reserve<\/strong>, the area of greatest naturalistic interest in the <strong>Cerbaie<\/strong> hills, between the <strong>Bientina and Fucecchio paduli.<\/strong> <strong>Environmental education initiatives<\/strong> are held here throughout the year, with guided hikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Santa Maria a Monte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-529993\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Points of interest<\/h2><div id=\"ac-529993\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Carducci<br>House Museum<br>Archaeological area of the Rocca<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To admire this view, one must ride a Vespa to <strong>Santa Maria a Monte<\/strong>, whose urban core is among the most interesting examples of a medieval Tuscan village. Its <strong>spiral shape<\/strong> reflects the three circles of walls around the former castle. The historic center preserves the Collegiate Church, tower houses and underground cisterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santa Maria a Monte was the birthplace of <strong>Vincenzo Galilei,<\/strong> father of <strong>Galileo<\/strong>, and was for years the residence of the poet <strong>Giosu\u00e8 Carducci<\/strong>, Italy&#8217;s first Nobel laureate, to whom the house museum is dedicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also worth a visit is the <strong>Civic Museum<\/strong>, set up near the Archaeological Area of the Rocca, dedicated to the patron saint <strong>Blessed Diana Giuntini<\/strong>, celebrated every year on Easter Monday with the traditional Procession of the Breadbaskets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container
