{"id":69395,"date":"2026-03-31T12:02:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/?post_type=attrazione&#038;p=69395"},"modified":"2026-03-31T12:02:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:02:38","slug":"pisa-palazzo-della-carovana-scuola-normale-superiore","status":"publish","type":"attrazione","link":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/pisa-palazzo-della-carovana-scuola-normale-superiore\/","title":{"rendered":"Pisa, Palazzo della Carovana &#8211; Scuola Normale Superiore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Home to the Scuola Normale Superiore since 1846<\/strong>, it is one of the city\u2019s most famous historic buildings. <br><br>Formerly the Palazzo degli Anziani in medieval times, <strong>it was renovated by Giorgio Vasari <\/strong>at the request of Cosimo I de\u2019 Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1562). The building served as the seat of the college that educated the Knights of the Order of St. Stephen, a military and monastic institution founded in 1561 by the Grand Duke to carry on the maritime legacy of the ancient Republic of Pisa and combat Turkish raids in the Mediterranean.<br><br>The <strong>interior<\/strong> has a sober and austere appearance, featuring elegant reception halls: the Blue Hall, home to the Archives; the Hall of Coats of Arms; and the Grand Prior\u2019s Hall.<br><br>The <strong>exterior <\/strong>features a harmonious, <strong>finely decorated fa\u00e7ade:<\/strong> the windows framed by stone moldings, the panels bearing graffito decorations, the interplay of light and shadow, and the sculptural relief of architectural and sculptural elements lend it a regular and symmetrical appearance.
