Pieve di Santa Luce owes its name to the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta and Sant’Angelo, one of the oldest in the Pisan territory as it dates back to the 6th-7th centuries. Built in stone, it had two naves separated by arches resting on three columns and two pillars. A legend of the Templars and the Holy Grail is linked to the parish church, which starts from the octagonal plan of the castle, passes through the baptismal font of the parish church and ends in the woods of Monte Maggiore.<\/p>\n\n
The present church has only one nave, as it was rebuilt after the violent earthquake of 1846 that devastated the Pisan Hills.
