{"id":52306,"date":"2024-01-11T10:06:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T09:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/attrazione\/montopoli-church-of-the-madonna-del-soccorso\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T11:04:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T10:04:19","slug":"montopoli-church-of-the-madonna-del-soccorso","status":"publish","type":"attrazione","link":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/montopoli-church-of-the-madonna-del-soccorso\/","title":{"rendered":"Montopoli | Church of the Madonna del Soccorso"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The church is located on the outskirts of the old town, near the crossroads towards Costa del Bagno.\r\nIt was built in 1606 by the Arciconfraternita del Soccorso (Archconfraternity of Succour) as an extension of a small loggia in which an <strong>image of the Virgin<\/strong> was worshipped that had helped the population.\r\nThe building has a rectangular plan and a portico with five arches. The fa\u00e7ade bears an inscription on the central arch about the building and the coats of arms of the local Toscani and Langeri families. A simple painting adorns the lunette of the entrance portal.\r\nThe one-nave interior has a beautiful pietra serena altar with an early 16th century fresco depicting the Madonna Enthroned with Child, Saint Sebastian and Saint Verdiana. On the side walls are paintings from the 17th century.
